Some Important context:

Acosta's primary known connection to Jeffrey Epstein stems from his role as U.S. Attorney overseeing Epstein's 2007–2008 federal investigation into allegations of child sex trafficking and abuse of minors as young as 14.

In 2008, Acosta approved a controversial non-prosecution agreement that shielded Epstein from federal charges, allowing him to plead guilty only to state-level solicitation charges in Florida.

This resulted in Epstein serving 13 months of an 18-month sentence (with extensive work-release privileges), registering as a sex offender, while also granting immunity to Epstein and unnamed co-conspirators and halting an ongoing FBI probe.

The deal was kept secret from victims, violating the Crime Victims' Rights Act as ruled by a federal judge in 2019.
