Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has avoided questions over the African gang machete attack in Carlton by sending her Housing Minister Harriet Shing to respond, pointing to the machete bin amnesty as a success while offering thoughts and prayers to the victims.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett says she welcomes the government's plans to strengthen hate speech laws.
