Egyptian immigrant former NSW official Ibrahim Helmy tries to claim he was "getting something from the cupboard" where he was found hiding by police last month.

Helmy was on the run after failing to face a corruption probe into allegations he took $11.5m in kickbacks.

He also laughed about "taking money from White people" with another immigrant associate, and said: "It's like they're giving us money to live in their country."
