Climate and pro-Palestine activist Greta Thunberg has been temporarily banned from Venice, Italy, after dying a canal green.

Thunberg’s ban lasted 48 hours, with her also receiving a fine of over $AUD250, for her part in a protest with fellow Extinction Rebellion activists.

All 35 activists involved in the protest over the weekend will receive the same punishment.

The protesters claimed the harmless dye was used to highlight the “massive effects of climate collapse”.

Governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, blasted the demonstration as “a disrespectful act towards our city, its history and its fragility.”
