Massive swells erode 2-metre cliffs off iconic Gold Coast beach

Shocking social media footage has captured the effects of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with Queensland’s beaches obliterated by extreme coastal erosion.

Waves as high as “three or four-storey buildings” gouged millions of cubic metres of sand between Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and Coffs Harbour in NSW – a stretch of coastline about 500km long.
Tweed Shire Council Mayor Chris Cherry described the situation as “quite extreme, we’ve got three metre cliffs in quite a few places along the coast, so the dunes have come right back”.
