Are sanctuary cities legal? Not exactly. Courts have generally said cities don’t have to actively assist federal immigration enforcement — but they also can’t obstruct it. Sanctuary isn’t sanctuary from the law. With the White House pushing for clearer boundaries, the real legal question may be where non-participation ends and obstruction begins.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the Liberal Party is trying to become “more right wing” to win back voters, but argues this strategy is what cost them the past two elections.
