US President Donald Trump formally launched the Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos, announcing a charter that establishes the body to address international conflicts, with permanent membership priced at $1bn and Trump serving as chairman.
This as Trump said a “framework of a future deal” on Greenland had been formed after talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, but provided no details, while Danish and Greenlandic leaders reiterated that sovereignty is non-negotiable and said they were unaware of the deal’s contents.
France seized an oil tanker in the Mediterranean suspected of being part of Russia’s sanctions-evasion “shadow fleet,” with French authorities saying the vessel was subject to international sanctions, suspected of flying a false flag, and diverted after a naval boarding supported by allies including the UK.
The United States presented plans for a “New Gaza” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, outlining a phased reconstruction featuring skyscrapers, large-scale housing, industrial zones, new transport infrastructure and the demilitarisation of the territory, under the oversight of President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.
The Trump administration has completed the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization, with US officials confirming all funding and participation have ended despite outstanding dues of about $260m, which legal experts say the US is unlikely to pay.
