HereтАЩs the last 24 hours in geopolitics.
US President Donald Trump said Canada should be тАЬgratefulтАЭ for what he described as benefits it receives from the United States, criticising remarks made by Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum that warned of a global geopolitical rupture and the erosion of the existing international order.
The United States warned HaitiтАЩs transitional council that it would take unspecified measures against anyone supporting changes it described as destabilizing and beneficial to gangs, saying such actions would undermine efforts to restore security and stability as the country struggles to move toward elections.
Trump also said he would not impose planned tariffs on European countries or use force to take control of Greenland after agreeing with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on a framework for future negotiations covering Greenland and the Arctic, though no details were provided.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow could pay $1 billion from Russian assets frozen under a previous U.S. administration to secure permanent membership in a proposed Gaza тАЬBoard of PeaceтАЭ.
Meanwhile, a further nine countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Turkey, said they would join the U.S.-led тАЬboard of peaceтАЭ proposed by Trump.
