Denmark is increasing its military presence in Greenland, with around 200 Danish soldiers already deployed to Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq for Arctic training exercises and additional combat troops expected to arrive, as Copenhagen also proposed a NATO mission for the island.
Russian state and pro-Kremlin media have praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s push to annex Greenland while criticising European opposition, arguing that a U.S. takeover would weaken Europe, strain NATO, and benefit Russia’s strategic interests.
U.S. President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join a U.S.-led “board of peace” intended to address global conflicts and oversee governance and reconstruction in Gaza, with the Kremlin confirming the invitation and saying it is seeking clarification without indicating whether Putin would participate.
Clashes were reported in north-eastern Syria after the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces agreed a nationwide ceasefire that was meant to end nearly two weeks of unrest and transfer control of Raqqa and Deir al-Zour to the state.
