The Pentagon said it is moving the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group from the South China Sea toward the Middle East as tensions with Iran increase, with the deployment expected to take about a week. The move comes as President Trump continues to weigh military options amid protests in Iran and new US sanctions, while officials say no strike decision has been made.
This, as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Oman warned Donald Trump against launching airstrikes on Iran, citing the risk of a wider regional war, as Trump ultimately paused military action and Saudi Arabia denied the US use of its airspace.
European Nato allies including France, Germany, the UK and Nordic states deployed small numbers of troops and aircraft to Greenland for Danish-led joint exercises, described as a limited reconnaissance mission with strong political symbolism.
The US said it reached an agreement with Taiwan to cut tariffs on Taiwanese goods to 15%, including caps on sector-specific duties, while Taiwanese semiconductor and technology firms pledged at least $250bn in new US investments alongside matching credit guarantees.
